INFO
Welcome to Tanssila. Dance is for everyone. It is always a right time to star dancing!
Dance is for everyone, and every dancer is worthy of dance.
For this reason, anyone who wishes can step into the spotlight, both during the Christmas and spring seasons. In our dance school, we speak about each other in a beautiful and encouraging way, believing in joy, good spirits, and consideration for others. Through the power of example, we can guide others, as we are a dance school specialized in dance education.
In our performances, everyone gets to wear beautiful dance costumes. The costumes are lent by the dance school and are rotated among different dancers. We take good care of the costumes, and we practice maintaining the performance attire during dance rehearsals. Since the costumes are shared, families won't incur additional costs, and the environment benefits as we avoid purchasing items that are used only temporarily.
Our facilities are beautiful and homely, with sofas, tables, paintings, and other equipment. It is cozy and safe. The good atmosphere and sense of teamwork can be felt all the way down to the hallway.

The Story of Tanssila
Tanssila was founded in the summer of 2013 when the founder Iiris Salmenmaa decided to hold a dance and performance-focused camp at the Marjaniemi allotment garden. The camp was an immediate hit, with nearly 30 participants, and after that, camps were held in various gardens in different years. Gradually, our camp activities have focused on Tanssila's own studios. Still today, the foundation of the camp remains the same – pedagogical dance education, safe activities, crafting, and, at the end of the camp, performances in beautiful costumes and face paint!
Soon after this camp weekly dance classes were started in a sports hall in Käpylä Helsinki.
In 2022, Tanssila merged its Metsälä and Haaga studios and opened its current 700m2 facilities in Haaga on Nuijamiestentie. The Haaga location includes multiple dance studios, a performance space called Kristalliteatteri, several changing rooms, restrooms, and shower facilities, as well as comfortable lobby areas for dancers and their families. Also operating in the same premises are the dance and lifestyle shop Igris and Vipeltävä Siili, specializing in physical activities for families with babies. Additionally, the Estradi Dance Competition, which organizes dance competitions, rents space at this location. On the same floor, you will also find the facilities of physiotherapist Jaana Mäkelä's Fysio Attitude. The Pakila studio has also undergone changes and now serves as not only a dance teaching center but also a pleasant and functional training facility.
From the very beginning, Tanssila's dance education has been based on two key principles: the opportunity for students to perform often and high-quality pedagogical dance teaching. Over the years, both the number of Tanssila students and the teaching team have grown, but the joy of dance and performance has never faded.
Tanssila has produced significant dance productions in addition to its annual Christmas and spring performances. These have included Klaara, Krista, and The Nutcracker (choreographed by I. Salmenmaa) in 2016 and 2017, Tanssila's 5th Anniversary Gala in 2018, Tanssila's 10th Anniversary Gala in 2023, and the fantasy dance fairytale Me and Sofi in 2024.
The first 10 years of Tanssila's story have now been written, but the journey is just beginning. In the future, we will continue to offer various performance opportunities for our dancers and plan new innovations. We welcome you to join our activities – the joy of dance, the magic of performance, and new friendships. These are the things Tanssila's work will continue to be made of in the future.
